19 October 2016

The Romanian Border Police caught a group of 29 Syrian migrants when they were trying to enter Romania illegally, from Serbia.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, at around 07:30. All migrants were taken to the station for questioning.

The police discovered that the 29 migrants were trying to get to Western Europe. The group was formed of five women and seven men aged 18-50, and 17 minors with ages between 2 and 17. None of them had any identification documents.

The Romanian Border Police have opened an investigation for illegal border crossing. They will also notify the Serbian authorities, for a joint investigation.

The migrants who are trying to get to Western Europe don’t always try to enter Romania from Serbia, but also try to cross the Danube illegally, from Bulgaria. A group of 16 migrants was caught at the beginning of this month when trying to enter Romania illegally after crossing the Danube River by boat.
