World Bank-selected experts to assess all PhD schools in Romania

20 November 2017

All 210 doctoral schools in Romania will be evaluated by Romanian and foreign experts selected by a World Bank structure for higher education, Sorin Cimpeanu, president of the National Council of Rectors (CNR), said yesterday.

They will check the quality of PhD supervisors, as well as the compliance with ethics, reports local News.ro. The experts will also look into plagiarism cases, which have been a massive problem in Romania’s PhD system in the last years.

The evaluation of each doctoral school will cost between EUR 10,000 and EUR 15,000.

“The costs are high and will be covered by universities, but the Ministry of Education is trying to support this funding,” Cimpeanu said.

The assessment should be completed by October 1, 2019.
