Winemaker Purcari sees higher sales and profit

Purcari Wineries, the only wine producer listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, recorded a turnover of RON 69 million (EUR 14.8 million) in the first half of this year, up by 19% over the same period of 2017.

Sales in Romania, the group’s biggest market, increased by 44% in the first six months, according to the half-year report.

Almost two-thirds (64%) of the group’s sales are in Romania and Moldova. However, it also exports its products to Poland, Belarus, Czech Republic and Slovakia, Asia, Baltic countries and Ukraine.

The group’s top brand in terms of sales in Purcari, which reached RON 27.5 million in sales in H1 2018, followed by Bostavan – RON 20.8 million, Crama Ceptura – RON 12.5 million and Bardar brandy – RON 8.3 million. The group’s net profit went up by 41% in the first half, reaching RON 16 million (EUR 3.44 million).

Purcari listed its shares on the Bucharest Stock Exchange this spring, with international investors such as Franklin Templeton, Charlemagne Capital and SEB Investment Management buying stakes in the company. The winemaker has a market capitalization of some EUR 76.5 million.
