U.S. hires Romanian to work on its image strategy abroad

The U.S. State Department has awarded a USD 159,000 contract to Transiris Corporation, a digital marketing company founded and managed by Romanian Silvian Cențiu, for branding and marketing services in Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Transiris representatives say this is a pilot-project and that the company will work on creating the image strategy abroad for the U.S.

“America, which is what we often call the U.S.A., is not just a country, but an idea, a set of life principles, a cultural symbol of the rights to life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness. But America’s image is also under constant pressure and criticized both from within the country and abroad. Our strategy focuses on creating an image that represents the true America,” said Silvian Centiu in a press release.

Transiris Corporation was awarded this contract in September 2018. The company will complete its strategy for promoting America’s image in Austria, Hungary and Czech Republic this mont hand an implementation project will follow.

The company Cențiu founded in 2012 has more than half of its employees in Romania, including the main strategist, creation director and project coordinator.

Transiris Corporation is headquartered in San Francisco and its clients include big tech companies such as IBM, Oracle, and Adobe.

Silvian Cențiu was born in the central Romania city of Brasov and graduated from the Andrei Saguna High School in the city. He studied at the Bucharest Polytechic University, Vienna Technical University, University of San Francisco and Stanford.

He left Romania in 1988, one year before the fall of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. He and his friends even plotted an assasination attempt targeting Ceausescu, which failed, Cențiu told local newspaper Romania Libera, in an interview in 2007. After that, they were forced to hide and flee the country.

In 1989, he set up an NGO for helping the victims of the Romanian Revolution, according to information on his LinkedIn profile.

In the U.S., Silvian Cențiu worked as a software developer for several big companies, including Sony and Oracle and as a Marketing Automation Strategy Leader for Cisco.

He also wrote a theater play called “A Transylvanian in Silicon Valley”.
