Romanian gas grid operator plans EUR 160 mln investments abroad

17 July 2018

Romanian state-owned gas transport company Transgaz has included a sum of EUR 164 million for acquisitions abroad in its investment plan for 2017.

The company’s total investment budget for this year amounts to almost EUR 400 million, local Economica.net reported. The company hasn’t mentioned what are its targeted investments abroad.

Transgaz has been involved in two international deals this year, but only one of them was completed, namely the acquisition of Vestmoldtransgaz from Moldova, the company that operates the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipe. Transgaz paid some EUR 5.3 million for the majority stake in this company.

The Romanian operator was also part of an international consortium that placed a bid for the Greek gas transporter DESFA. The consortium made of Spanish group Reganosa, Romanian Transgaz and the EBRD failed to buy DESFA as a competing consortium made a higher bid.
