French tenor Roberto Alagna, who was recently accused by his former wife, the famous Romanian opera singer Angela Gheorghiu of having beaten her in front of their families, said that the allegations of domestic violence  “are without basis and defamatory,” according to a post on his Facebook page. He added that his lawyers are dealing with this situation. “Lawyers have been instructed both in France and in the UK,” reads the Facebook post.

Angela Gheorghiu recently said in an interview for The Independent that she was the victim of domestic violence and French tenor Roberto Alagna (in picture), whom she recently divorced, beat her in front of their families.

Romanian opera singer said in her interview for The Independent that she was very kind with the French tenor on this matter, “because otherwise in France [where he lives] it would be a big problem for him.”

Angela Gheorghiu added that he was violent in front of their families and there were times when she could not sing anymore from all the crying he had caused her. “The first solution for me was not to sing together anymore,” she said.

Opera’s love couple Gheorghiu – Alagna was first a couple on stage, in 1992, when they performed together in La Boheme. Four years later, they got married, after Gheorghiu divorced her first husband.
