Team Romania misses bronze in World Athletics relay

Romania’s women athletes outshone the men at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Istanbul. Held over March 9, 10 and 11, the indoor competition provided a chance for athletes to prove themselves ahead of the Olympic Games in London this summer.

Romania’s best result came in the women’s 4 x 400m relay. Angela Morosanu, Alina Panainte, Adelina Pastor and Elena Mirela Lavric came fourth in a season’s best of 3:33.41, losing out on a bronze medal to Russia. Great Britain took the gold and the USA came second. V

iorica Tigau, from Galati, made the long jump final and picked up 7th place with a 6.34 m jump. Bucharest’s Petre Esthera also grabbed herself a 7th spot in the high jump. Her 1.92m jump was just 2 cm off her personal best for indoor competition, recorded earlier this year. Petre has been getting better and better over the last few years, setting new personal bests each season.
