Speedy Internet infrastructure to cost Romania EUR 3.9 bln

14 October 2014

Romania would have to invest at least EUR 3.9 billion in the next seven years in keeping up with its national strategy for a digital agenda, which features ultra-speed optic fiber networks, the so-called ‘next generation access’.

The national strategy will most likely get the go-ahead from the Government by end-October, in order to get the EU funds for this area between 2014 and 2020, according to Elena Voicu, secretary of state within the IT Ministry, quoted by EurActiv.ro.

Introducing the next generation access into the plan, as the EU had requested, more than doubled the needed funding to reach the target, from a previous infrastructure budget of EUR 1.2-EUR 1.7 billion.
