Sales of durable goods, up 10% in Romania

The sales of durable consumer goods increased by 10.5% in Romania in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2016, reaching EUR 1.17 billion, according to the GfK Temax market survey published yesterday.

The durable goods category includes products such as vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, computers, laptops, mobile phones, or cameras.

The telecom market reached EUR 460 million in the first six months of the year, up 19.1% year-on-year, according to the survey. The growth came from the significant increase in the sale of smartphones with medium and large screens.

The small appliances market rose by 19.1% during this period reaching EUR 91 million. The biggest category of products, vacuum cleaners, saw a two-digit increase. Photo camera sales grew by 14.7% year-on-year to EUR 12 million.

The local electronics market grew by 10.4% in the first semester of this year, compared to the same period last year, to EUR 186 million, supported by higher demand for TV sets.
