Romania's tax agency starts new control action in e-commerce

18 May 2017

Romania’s tax agency – ANAF has launched a new control action aimed at curbing evasion in online sales.

It will monitor and control packages delivered by post or through courier companies following orders placed online, according to an ANAF document cited by local Profit.ro.

This new operation is called “E-commerce”, and adds to similar actions, including the Electronic Commerce Monitoring Bureau, a structure set up for this purpose in January 2017.

Tax inspectors carry out unannounced controls via the Electronic Commerce Monitoring Bureau to identify parcels that could violate customs legal provisions, shipped by express and postal delivery. The Tax Agency is also looking into sales of goods through online sites or platforms, which don’t comply with the income declaration obligations.
