Romania's highways company pays illegal bonuses to tens of employees

20 March 2017

A number of 69 employees working for the National Highways Company (CNAIR) illegally received bonuses of up to 75% of their wages in 2015, according to a report made by the Court of Auditors, cited by local Economica.net.

The damage inflicted on the company amounted to RON 725,000 (EUR 159,000).

The 69 employees were involved only fictitiously in road infrastructure projects, according to the report.

The Court of Auditors has also questioned the bonuses granted to 238 other employees working for CNAIR. The auditors explained that they haven’t received from CNAIR the information they had asked for to find out if the bonuses granted to the 238 employees were justified or not.

CNAIR has about 6,000 employees.
