Romania’s gas pipe from the Black Sea to cost EUR 255 million

02 July 2014

The gas pipe which will bring gas to Romania from the Black Sea starting 2019 – 2020 will cost EUR 255 million and will be 250 kilometers long, according to Transgaz officials, quoted by Agerpres. This will allow gas from the Black sea to reach Bulgaria and Hungary via Romania.

This gas pipe project is seen as an alternative to the former Nabucco project, and it will be a system that will connect Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria. Romania wants to get EU money for it, but it will apply for the funding together with the other countries.

Earlier in May, OMV Petrom, ExxonMobil and Transgaz signed an agreement to transfer the gas found in the Black Sea to the national system. OMV Petrom and ExxonMobil are working in exploring the deep sea perimeter of Neptun in the Black Sea, with gas production estimated for 2019.
