Romania's deficit in agri-food trade increases 1.7 times in Q1

Romania's deficit in agri-food trade increased 1.7 times in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period in 2016, reaching EUR 460 million.

Romania exported 2.94 million tons of agri-food products in the first quarter of this year, which were worth EUR 1.26 billion. The exports increased both in quantity and value compared to the same period last year.

On the other side, the imports of agri-food products amounted to 2 million tons in the first three months of this year, worth EUR 1.72 billion. Imports also went up both in volume and value over the same period in 2016.

The European Union remained Romania’s main partner in the agri-food trade, with Germany ranking first for imports and Italy being first for exports.

Grain, tobacco and oil seeds remained the most exported agri-food products. Romania exported EUR 470 million worth of grain and EUR 164 million worth of tobacco products in the first quarter.

As for imports, fruits, vegetables and meat ranked highest. For example, Romania paid EUR 154.6 million for imported fruits and EUR 141 million for vegetables in the first quarter of this year.

Romania's deficit in agri-food trade increased 1.7 times in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period in 2016, reaching EUR 460 million.
