Romanians reserve 40% of Cash-for-Bangers vouchers in less than a week

25 May 2017

The authorities could supplement the budget allocated to the Cash-for-Bangers “Rabla” program, after Romanians reserved 40% of the program’s vouchers in less than a week after its launch.

The program has a budget of RON 180 million (EUR 39.5 million), which is enough for about 26,000 vouchers.

In the first six days after the program’s launch, people have reserved 10,000 tickets, namely almost 40% of the total number. Moreover, people reserved 60 electric cars through the Rabla Plus program, almost double compared to last year.

The Environment Ministry now considers supplementing the budget for the Rabla program.

The Cash-for-Bangers (Rabla Clasic) program, as well as the Rabla Plus version, for electric and hybrid cars, started on May 18 for both individuals and companies. The two programs aim to stimulate the renewal of the national car fleet.

The voucher value for the Cash-for-Bangers (Rabla Clasic) program amounts to some EUR 1,400, which is paid to anyone who scraps a car older than 8 years. The Environmental Fund Administration (AFM) also grants a subsidy of around EUR 10,000 for those who acquire an electric car included in the RablaPlus program. Those who acquire a hybrid car will get an extra subsidy of about EUR 1,000.
