Eight Romanian women tennis players have qualified for the main draw at this year’s Wimbledon, a record number for Romania, local Mediafax reported.
One of them is, of course, the Romanian tennis star Simona Halep, who is currently No. 1 in the WTA singles rankings. She has been drawn to face Japanese Kurumi Nara in the first round.
The other seven Romanian players who booked a spot in Wimbledon’s main draw are Mihaela Buzarnescu, Irina Begu, Sorana Cirstea, Monica Niculescu, Ana Bogdan, Gabriela Ruse and Alexandra Dulgheru.
Wimbledon 2018, the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, will take place in London between July 2 and July 15. Last year, Romania’s tennis star Simona Halep stopped in the quarterfinals, the same as the year before.
