Romanian sportscaster gets “Media Man of the Year” award from World Record Academy

Ilie Dobre, one of Romania’s most famous sports commentators, has been designated "Media Man of the Year" in 2014 by the World Record Academy.

The organization which verifies and certifies world records awarded him this prize “in recognition of his efforts in the use of media in promoting sports, moral ideals, fair play, tolerance and the social value of sport”, according to an official announcement.

Ilie Dobre has been working as a sports commentator for Romania’s National State Radio for about 30 years during which he broadcasted live soccer matches from the national league, European games, as well as World and European Championships.

Ilie Dobre has set several world records in his career, including longest broadcast of a goal without breath (31 seconds) and for longest broadcast of a goal with one respiration (1 minute 8 seconds). He also holds the record for most books published by a radio sports commentator, with over 40 sport-related books.
