Romanian song of the week: Iubibila by Taxi

20 September 2012

This week's song of choice has stirred some comments in Romania, as many did not appreciate the recent word choice in Taxi's newest song, which invented a new word in Romanian. The song, called “Iubibila”, is a love song based on a Romanian translation of the word 'Loveable '. Other new words were included in the song, using the same ending 'bila' –mangaibila, alintabila, giugiulibila, rasfatabila, which follow the same 'something-able' theme - caress-able , cuddle-able, smooch-able and spoil-able.

The song itself is quite catchy and is already on heavy rotation on radios in Romania.

Taxi formed in 1999 and they have their own take on Romanian music. Much of their work focuses on lyrics, in which they sometimes tackle serious issues using humor, while at the same time treating the trivial seriously.

The six band members are lead singer Dan Teodorescu, together with Vicky Sava, Mugurel Coman, Cantemir Neacșu, Darius Neagu and Kerezsi Csongor. The band represented Romania at the Eurovision competition in 2000 with the song Luna (the Moon) and ranked 17th.
