Romanian public sector employees to have a five-day holiday in June

18 May 2017

Public sector employees in Romania will have a five-day holiday between June 1 and June 5, government sources told News.ro.

The Government will pass a decision to declare Friday, June 2, a free day for state employees in order to link June 1 (which falls on Thursday) to June 5 (Monday).

June 1, the International Children’s Day, is a legal non-working day in Romania, after the Chamber of Deputies passed a law last year in October. The second day of Pentecost, which is also a legal day off in Romania, will fall on Monday, on June 5.

In total, Romanians have 17 legal days off this year, two more than in 2016. The new legal holidays are June 1 and January 24.

In September 2016, the Chamber of Deputies passed a bill that makes January 24, the day when Romania celebrates the Union of the Romanian Principalities, a legal day off.
