Romanian pharmacy chain Sensiblu buys competitor City Pharma

The A&D Pharma group, which runs the Sensiblu network of pharmacies in Romania, will take over 90 City Pharma units from Relad. The Sensiblu chain will thus reach 400 units across Romania.

The value of the deal was not disclosed, and the takeover should be finalized in June this year, according to Robert Popescu, CEO of A&D Pharma. The re-branding to Sensiblu will also start in June.

A&D Pharma is controlled by a group of business people, including Walid Abboud, Roger Akoury, Ludovic Robert and Michel Eid. The company launched its Anima clinics last year, in addition to its distribution and pharma retail businesses. Sensiblu's business in 2010 stood at some EUR 235 million, according to Finance Ministry data.
