Romanian tennis player wins her first WTA title in Silicon Valley Classic

Romanian tennis player Mihaela Buzarnescu won her first WTA tournament on Sunday, the Mubadala Silicon Valley Clasic. She beat Greek player Maria Sakkari in the final of the San Jose WTA Premier tournament in two sets: 6-1, 6-0.

After this victory, the 30-year old Romanian entered the top 20 of the best women’s tennis players in the world. She is only the fifth Romanian player to enter Top 20 WTA.

Buzarnescu has been a professional tennis player since 2004. However, kept her away from the court for several years. The Bucharest-born player restarted her career in 2017 and had a great run this year. She reached two WTA finals, in Hobart and Prague, before winning the San Jose tournament.

She also had good results at Roland Garros, where she reached the fourth round, and Wimbledon, where she reached the third round.
