Romanian lender allows customers to pay by fingerprint

Local lender UniCredit Bank will introduce a new payment method by scanning the fingerprint for payments of up to RON 800 (EUR 175.6).

The bank’s customers can authorize payments within this limit by reading the fingerprint without the need to enter the PIN code.

The bank will also offer its customers a higher interest rate for deposits created through digital channels. Customers will get an extra 0.15 percentage points to the normal interest. Clients can choose the deposits’ duration and can opt for automatic renewal.

UniCredit recorded a profit of EUR 21 million in Romania in the first quarter of the year, up 16.1% year-on-year. It was supported by the advance of deposits and loans, as well as the revenues from fees and commissions.
