Over 1.5 million Romanian children will each get a jar of honey from Romanian production every month, starting this year, Daniel Botanoiu, state secretary in the Agriculture Ministry, said on Friday.

The Agriculture Ministry’s budget includes the funds for this program, which amount to almost RON 17 million (EUR 3.7 million).

Romania already has a law for distributing honey in schools, but it hasn’t been enforced, he explained. “We want to implement it this year, but under another form,” the state secretary said, reports Profit.ro.

The Government sent the draft law to the Parliament. It could be quickly adopted, because “we have all the support”, according to Botanoiu.

The program would boost the national honey production, as it would use 10% of the total national production.
