Romanian kidnapped from ship in Nigerian waters, released after a month

The Romanian sailor kidnapped on September 22 from a ship in the Nigerian waters was released last week, along with all other crew members, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

The ministry said the Romanian would be repatriated these days, currently being assisted by a mobile consular team within the Romanian Embassy in Berne.

On September 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a Romanian citizen was among the 12 crew members kidnapped from a Swiss ship in the Nigerian waters. The 12 sailors were from Romania, the Philippines, Slovenia, Ukraine, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, according to the media. The ship was carrying wheat, travelling between the southwestern commercial capital Lagos and southern Niger Delta oil hub Port Harcourt.
