He won a Silver Bear for the historical drama Aferim! in 2015. His latest feature film Inimi Cicatrizate/Scarred Hearts won the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland last summer.

A total of 15 films were shortlisted for Beijing Film Festival’s Tiantan Awards, including Romanian movie Doua Lozuri/Two Lottery Tickets, directed by Paul Negoescu. According to data from Romania’s National Film Center, the 2016 comedy brought in the highest earnings in 2016 among Romanian releases, with a total of EUR 534,000.
