Romanian Dacia’s local production, down 4% in H1 2017

Dacia manufactured 170,430 cars at its Mioveni plant in Romania in the first six months of this year, 4% less than in the similar period of 2016, according to data from the Association of Automotive Manufacturers of Romania ACAROM.

Another 24,933 semi-assembled car bodies meant for the Algerian market were also manufactured.

The Duster model is the only one to have posted higher numbers, with 106,038 units manufactured in the first half of this year. This is 2.4% more than the 103,473 cars produced in the similar period of 2016. The Sandero model production was down 18% from 31,122 units in the first half of 2016 to 25,435 in the first six months of this year.

The Mioveni plant also manufactured 22,488 Logan MCV cars, and 16,469 Logan units, down 21% from the 20,862 produced in the first half of 2016.

Renault-owned Dacia is the biggest company in Romania based on revenue. It had a turnover of RON 20.76 billion (EUR 4.6 billion) in 2016.

Romania reported in the first five months of this year the second highest new car registrations growth in the European Union, of 23.3% or 36,978 units. This is four times over the EU growth of 5.3%.

Dacia deliveries in the EU went up by 10.6% to 192,352 units, bringing the Romanian car brand to a market share of 2.9%.
