Romanian authors will be guests of honor at Salon du Livre book show in Paris

norman maneaRomanian literature will be the special feature at this year's Salon du Livre in Paris. Romania and Catalan Spanish city Barcelona will be the guests of honor the 33rd annual book show in the French capital in March this year.

With the spotlight firmly on Romania, 27 guest authors will represent the full range of generations and genres in modern Romanian literature, from graphic novels through to poetry, plays and essays, as well as novels.

The list of of authors is veritable who's who of Romanian writing and includes many big literature prize winners, including Prix Médicis Étranger laureate Norman Manea (in picture).

Andrei Marga, the head of Romania's cultural institute (ICR) described Romania's place as guest of honor at the Salon du Livre as an unprecedented event. He said the event should give local writers a huge boost. Romanian authors will meet the public and take part in discussions at the event in March.

The Romanian contribution to the Salon du Livre is organized in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute, the CNL – the French national book centre and the Institut Français.

The event takes place between March 22 and March 25 at the Porte de Versailles exhibition center, Paris. Normal ticket price is EUR 10, but students and under-18s can get in for free. Reserve tickets here.
