Romania could be among the countries benefiting from financial assistance from the United States to protect critical infrastructure and electoral mechanisms from Russian cybercrime, but also to combat corruption, strengthen the rule of law and increase the capacity of the civil society, the media and NGOs to counter the influence and propaganda of the Russian Federation.

The amounts are destined to the countries in the EU and NATO that are most vulnerable to Russian influence, but also to countries with Euro-Atlantic "aspirations" such as the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine or even Kosovo, according to a US draft law cited by local Profit.ro.

The US will allocate the money via the Countering Russian Influence Fund (CRIF). The fund was created in May this year.

The law provides the allocation of at least USD 100 million per year to this fund „to counteract Russian influence and aggression" in the states of Europe and Eurasia.
