Romanian foreign affairs minister Teodor Melescanu submitted last Thursday the document for Romania’s ratification of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
Melescanu said that the implementation of strategies on sustainable development and climate change at national level corresponds to Romania’s commitment as an EU Member State.
On the same day, US president Donald Trump announced that the US will pull out of the agreement. Trump said that he would start negotiations either to re-enter the Paris Agreement or start a whole new deal with provisions that are fair to the United States, its businesses and its workers.
The agreement entered into force on October 5, 2016 and will become operational after 2020.
