Romania, third in EU for public order spending to GDP

Romania ranked third among the European Union member states in 2015 for the share of public order and security spending in the country’s GDP, namely 2.3%.

Only Bulgaria and Slovakia recorded higher values, namely 2.8% and 2.4% of their GDP, according to the EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

Denmark and Luxembourg were at the opposite pole. Their spending on public order and security totaled only 1% of the GDP. Ireland, Malta and Finland also recorded low shares.

The average spending per capita on public order and security amounted to EUR 507 at EU level.

Despite the high spending to GDP ratio, Romania ranked among the countries with the lowest spending per capita on public order and security, with EUR 183.
