Romania has third-lowest pay gap between women and men in EU

Romania, Italy and Luxembourg recorded the lowest gaps between women's and men's wages in 2015, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

At EU level, women’s average wages were 16.3% lower compared to men’s salaries.

On average, women earned less than men in all EU member states, but the pay gap varied, according to Eurostat data. Luxembourg and Italy saw the lowest pay gaps, namely 5.5%, followed by Romania with 5.8%, Belgium with 6.5% and Poland with 7.7%.

At the opposite end, the biggest differences were in Estonia (26.9%), Czech Republic (22.5%), Germany (22%), Austria (21.7%) and Great Britain (20.8%).
