Romania’s gaming industry exceeds USD 145 mln

Romania’s gaming industry recorded a turnover of USD 145.3 million last year, according to a study by the Romanian Game Developers Association (RGDA). The industry’s turnover went up by 27% in the last three years.

The gaming industry includes companies that develop video games in Romania or offer specialized services in the field.

Over a quarter of the companies that are currently active in the industry were set up last year. Romania has over 80 gaming studios, with more than 6,000 employees. It is a highly specialized industry with a big added value and huge export potential.

Some 85% of the gaming studios in Romania specialize in developing new games whereas 15%, on services for the industry, according to RGDA.

The local gaming industry has grown around large studios built here since the 1990s. They have created or contributed to world-renowned video games such as FIFA, Need for Speed or Assassin's Creed.

Some of the largest companies in this field include Ubisoft Romania, Electronic Arts Romania, Gameloft Romania, Super Hippo or Green Horse Games.
