Romania: 2-year-old boy rescued from deep well after almost 11 hours

A child of only one year and nine months fell into a 16-meter deep well on Tuesday, being rescued after almost 11 hours.

The incident happened in the courtyard of a household in Teleorman county, Southern Romania, and the boy was taken to a hospital in Bucharest after he was rescued, currently being in a stable but serious condition.

During the rescue operation, the child was monitored with a video camera introduced in the well.

Doctors diagnosed him with severe hypothermia, as half of his body stayed in water during the time he was in the well. According to the Bucharest hospital’s spokesperson, the boy also suffered a cardiac arrest and needed resuscitation maneuvers.

Dozens of firefighters participated in the rescue mission. Video below shows the moment when the boy was taken out of the well.

Meanwhile, prosecutors at the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Rosiorii de Vede Court opened a criminal case in rem for injury by negligence, reports local Digi24. The prosecutors and police will first examine the facts, and will try to determine if there is someone to blame for what happened.
