Romania to have over 100 shopping centers in 2018

27 November 2017

The existing 95 centers and the planned openings will drive the number of shopping centers in Romania to over 100 next year, according to a report of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), quoted by Economica.net.

The first mall opened in Romania, in September 1999, was the Bucuresti Mall. In July 2017, there were 95 retail projects in Romania, according to an ICSC report quoting Cushman & Wakefield data. These covered malls, commercial parks, and the only outlet in the country.

Among the planned openings there are the three malls of NEPI in Ramnicu Valcea, Satu Mare and Tirgu Mures. NEPI Rockastle recently invested some EUR 30 million in expanding and revamping the Shopping City Galati mall.

Belgian investor Mitiska Reim opened last week a commercial gallery in Bistrita, while Austrian group Immofinanz plans to open a second Stop.Shop in Brasov, in central Romania.
