Romanian power transformer producer sold to US private equity firm

Power transformer producer Retrasib Sibiu, which is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, was sold by the investment fund BC Partners to the US group One Equity Partners.

The buyer is a private equity firm focused on medical, industrial and technology sectors in North America and Europe, separated from JP Morgan in 2015. The transaction took place internationally.

BC Partners sold its entire stake in SGB SMIT International, a German company that controls 67.4% of Retrasib. The transaction value was not made public.

SGB SMIT is the largest independent power transformer manufacturer. The company operates in Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Malaysia, USA. The group bought a stake in Retrasib in October 2014.

Retrasib Sibiu (RTRA) produces transformers and autotransformers for the transport and distribution of electricity. It has a market capitalization of RON 24 million (EUR 5.2 million) and is listed on the main trading segment of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
