The authorities in Timisoara, Western Romania, plan to close all the ticket kiosks of the city’s Autonomous Transport Company, which means that the residents will be able to buy public transport tickets only by card or mobile phone.

“We will soon introduce the mobile phone payment, as well as a different payment method, for public transport. We will no longer complicate with other subsystems, other variants. It’s the era of multifunctional phones, which are not only phones but also intelligent devices that will become even more popular and can be used for the payment of public transport tickets,” said Timisoara mayor Nicolae Robu, reports local Mediafax.

“We will no longer keep kiosks where the tickets are sold, this system is totally outdated, and we will introduce a system that will allow payment on the phone or with the bank card.”

The mayor said the printed public transport tickets would disappear by mid-2018.
