Protesters interrupt dolphin show in Romanian city

28 August 2017

Three people protested this weekend at the Dolphinarium in Constanta, a city at the Romanian seaside, asking for the release of the dolphins.

The protesters jumped into the pool where one dolphin show was taking place on Saturday, August 26. They had placards saying “The sea is the home of the dolphins” and “Ni-Ni and Chen-Chen are suffering for your entertainment,” News.ro reported.

The representatives of the Constanta Nature Sciences Museum Complex, which encompasses the Dolphinarium, say the three endangered the life of the dolphins by going in the water without previous disinfection. The management of the institution said it would file a legal complaint in this case.

The three people were two men, aged 32 and 33, and one woman, aged 28. One of the men is a Dutch citizen. The Romanian woman is from Cluj, and the man from Eforie, a town nearby Constanta and a seaside resort.

The three protesters have been fined RON 1,500 (EUR 327) each.
