Romanian PM to HoReCa: no relaxation until infection rate drops

21 July 2020

As long as we do not see a downward trend in the count of new coronavirus infections, we can't go ahead with new relaxation measures, Romanian prime minister Ludovic Orban told representatives of the HoReCa industry on July 20, Mediafax reported.

Government officials repeatedly expressed discontent with the sanitary protection measures not being observed in public spaces.

Economy minister Virgil Popescu, speaking for Digi24 TV channel, said "it does not make sense opening indoor restaurants as long as the measures are not observed in outdoor restaurants."

Currently, only outdoor restaurants are allowed to operate, but the initial tight distancing norms were weakened.

Minister of health Nelu Tataru warned over the weekend, in the context of a record number of new infections reported (nearly 900 per day), that "some restrictions might be re-introduced" concerning the functioning of outdoor restaurants.
