Pet food market up 6% in Romania, more spent on dogs than on cats

The pet food market in Romania was about EUR 168 million in 2013, up around 6 percent on the previous year, according to data from Euromonitor.

There are 11 million pets in Romania, including 4.1 million dogs and 4 million cats. However, out of the number of dogs, 1.5 million are stray dogs, according to Euromonitor, quoted by Ziarul Financiar.

Romanians spend some EUR 112 million on dog food, while for cat food, they spend a lot less, or some EUR 48 million, despite the similar number of dogs and cats as pets.
