Mobile virtual network operator Lycamobile enters Romania

Mobile virtual network operator Lycamobile has launched operations in Romania, which became the 18th country in the company’s international network.

It wants to increase its global user base by 25% over the next 12 months, reports local Mediafax.

Romanians will be able to make international calls for EUR 0.01 per minute through the Lycamobile prepaid SIM cards.

About half of the 6-8 million Romanians abroad live in 17 countries within the Lycamobile network, according to a company statement.

Consumer interest for prepaid mobile services is traditionally very high in Romania. The country has 12.9 million users of prepaid cards, compared to 9.4 million users of subscriptions services.

Lycamobile, which was founded in 2006, posted a EUR 1.5 billion turnover last year.
