Romanian-Italian duo win Tianjin Open women’s doubles title

Romanian tennis player Irina-Camelia Begu and her Italian teammate Sara Errani won on Sunday, October 15, the women’s doubles title at Tianjin Open.

Begu and Errani defeated the Slovenian-Serbian duo Dalila Jakupovic/Nina Stojanovic 6-4, 6-3 in the final. The winners got a total money prize of over USD 17,700 and 280 WTA points.

This was the second doubles final won by Irina-Camelia Begu this year. The Romanian managed a great performance in July, as she won both the singles and doubles trophies of the local BRD Bucharest Open. She thus became the first Romanian player with single and double wins in the same WTA tournament after Virginia Ruzici in 1985.

Irina-Camelia Begu ranks 56th in the WTA singles ranking and 38th in the doubles ranking. Romanian Simona Halep is world No.1 in the singles ranking.
