Internal affairs initiate procedures for arresting Romanian anticorruption prosecutors

The magistrates’ body CSM has not approved a request filed by the head prosecutor charged with disciplinary investigations, Adina Florea, for the arrest of two former prosecutors of the Ploiesti office of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), Digi24 informed.

The two prosecutors, Lucian Onea and Mircea Negulescu were previously suspended and are being investigated for deeds including alleged forgery of evidences. Florea submitted CSM several files involving the two, but can’t ask the court’s permission for the their arrest without the consent of magistrates’ body.

The former head of Ploiesti DNA office, Lucian Onea, is being investigated for "the formation of an organized criminal group, unfair repression, abusive research, misleading judicial bodies, forgery, use of forgery, disclosure of state secret information, abuse of office, incitement to forgery in writings under private signature".

The DNA office in Ploiesti was one of the most active DNA branches during former chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi’s mandates. The prosecutors coordinated by Lucian Onea have investigated top local politicians and businessmen, including former prime minister Victor Ponta and former MP Sebastian Ghita.
