What is Romania’s renewable energy capacity?

Romania’s renewable energy capacity reached 5,127 MW at the end of November last year, according to the national electricity transporter Transelectrica.

The energy system included wind parks totaling 3,129 MW, photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 1,312 MW, small hydropower plants of 583 MW and biomass projects of 103 MW, reports local Agerpres.

The installed capacity was lower compared to the end of October, when it amounted to 5,180 MW of renewable energy. The wind energy saw the largest decrease, from 3,186 MW to 3,129 MW.

In 2016, the renewable energy needs to have a share of 12.15% in Romania’s total energy mix. In 2015, its share amounted to 11.9%.

The consumers, who are paying for the renewable energy support system, will have to pay about RON 35/MWh, similar to last year.
