Sorin Frunzaverde, VP of ruling PDL in Romania joins opposition party due to 'administrative chaos'

Romanian MP Sorin Frunzaverde has defected to the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL), which is part of the Social Liberal Union (USL), after recently stepping down from the position of first vice-president of the ruling Democrat Liberal Party (PDL) in Romania. Frunzaverde said today ( March 28 ) that he decided to switch because he has a different opinions to other PDL members, also referring to the “administrative chaos”. “Although I insisted on developing a decentralized budget, that didn’t happened,” he stated.

"A significant number of PDL members tried to stop me,” said Sorin Frunzaverde, adding that this is a personal decision. Moreover, he said his intention is not to wreck the party, and he wants a dialogue to exist within the Romanian political class.

He also hinted that a part of the PDL members might leave the party also. According to the Romanian media, PDL organized an emergency meeting after the Sorin Frunzaverde’s decision to leave the party.

Frunzaverde was National defense Minister in 2000 and in  2006 and 2007. He has been a PDL member for the last 20 years.
