SoNoRo Festival brings chamber music, masks and mystery to Bucharest

The chamber music festival SoNoRo 2010 „ Un ballo in maschera“, makes its debut on October 31. The distinctive mark of this year’s edition is the two-artist photo exhibition, dedicated to masks, signed Hiroshi Watanabe and Dragos Lumpan.

SoNoRo, the chamber music festival is one of the top Romanian cultural events of the month of November. The event runs between October 31 and November 14 in the most emblematic places in the cities of Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi. Nine concerts are scheduled to take place in Bucharest, one in Iasi and four in Cluj. Festival tickets can be purchased through Eventim network, in Germanos, Orange, Vodafone, Domo shops, Carturesti and Humanitas libraries and online at: www.eventim.ro. Over 30 artists will perform in 14 shows. The event marks the celebration of 200 years from both Frederic Chopin and Robert Schumann’s birth, being called "Un ballo in maschera" - “A masked ball” reflecting the domninant pattern of the program.

“We have reached the fifth edition and this is a success, as many good initiatives get lost on the way” said Razvan Popovici, violinist and festival director. He also said that the quality of the artists did not change over the time, thus, SoNoRo remaining an event which does not hold back from the principles of quality.

Artists who will perform

Diana Ketler, Konstantin Lifschitz, Florian Mitrea (piano), Alina Pogostkina, Corinne Chapelle, Daria Zappa şi Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin), Cristian Naş, Serghei Malov şi Răzvan Popovici (viola), Julian Arp, David Cohen, Bernhard Naoki Hedenborg şi Erich Oskar Hutter (violoncello), Nabil Shehata (contrabass), Juliette Hurel (flaut), Reto Bieri (clarinet) , Nicholas Daniels (oboe), Rui Lopes (basson), Olivier Darbellay (corn), Marcelo Nisinman (bandoneon), Cristian Balea (percussions), Andu Dumitrescu (VJ), Luiza Zan (singer) and Marius Manole (narrator).

The concerts will take place at

The Cotroceni Palace, The National Military Circle Palace, Bragadiru Palace, The Romanian Atheneum, Arcub, George Enescu Museum Bucharest, Mihai Eminescu Library Iasi, The Calvin Reformed Church, Babes Bolyai University, Turnul Croitorilor and Club Diesel Cluj

At this year’s festival a two - artist photography exhibition will also take place, signed by Hiroshi Watanabe and by Dragoş Lumpan. Their works, as well as the premiere of the “Chopin Reloaded” documentary movie, directed by Krzysztof Dzięciołowski (Poland, 2010) will become main features of the event.
