Romanian president Traian Basescu, who is currently attending the ongoing Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, said all countries have the obligation to improve the safety of nuclear equipment they own and convince citizens that they don't pose any risks.

Romania is one of the 15 EU states invited to the summit, and one of the 32 states in the world which controls its entire nuclear fuel chain- from extraction to processing into nuclear fuel, burning it in the reactor and storing the waste, said president Traian Basescu, highlighting the importance of Romania attending this summit.

“For us, the summit is very important, firstly to contribute to future developments on security and nuclear safety, secondly to voice our opinion,” said Traian Basescu.

The tragedy at Fukushima triggered disbelief among people that nuclear energy can be used safely and securely. The countries present at the summit pledged to improve the security of nuclear equipment they own, according to the Romanian president.

Leaders from 53 states and four international organizations gathered at the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul on March 26 and 27.
