Romanian film 'If I want to Whistle, I Whistle', strong debut, writes IndieWire

IndieWire, a specialized publication in the US writing about independent filmmakers, has reviewed Romania's Oscar entry movie 'If I want to Whistle, I whistle', saying the film marks a strong debut in the awards. The publication has offered the B grade for the movie, which had its premiere in the US earlier this week.

The review article, titled Romanian Redemption: Strong Debut in Prison Drama “If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle, is signed by Eric Kohn. Read the review here.  The Romanian movie ‘If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle’ has its premiere in the US on January 5 and will run in New York until January 18.

Following up are screenings in LA, Palm Springs (Regal, Tahquitz, Canyon Way) on Saturday, January 8, starting 12:30 and on Monday, January 10, starting 15:30. If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle is Romania’s official entry into this year’s Oscar competition for Best Foreign Language Film.

Florin Serban’s first feature-length movie, ‘If I Want To Whistle, I Whistle’, got the jury prize Alfred-Bauer award for cinematic innovation in the 60th edition of the Berlinale. Oscar nominees will be announced on January 25, 2011. The 83rd edition of the U.S. Academy Awards will take place on February 27, 2011 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles.
