Romanian company launches Evobook e-reader

17 November 2010
Romanian company Televoice has launched Evobook, a Romanian e-reader which will sell for EUR 150 from December this year. The electronic reader, which runs on an e-ink technology, will include 120 books in Romanian and around 20 in English and French at first and will allow readers to keep up to 4,000 books on its 2GB internal memory.
The device will also have an online update service for the digital library, similarly to the system used for the GPS devices sold by the company under the brand Evolio.  The company hopes to sell 6,000 Evobooks in 2011 only, on an e-readers' market which is estimated to reach EUR 3 million next year and EUR 10 million in 2013, according to Liviu Nistoran, president of Evolio.
The Evobook will compete with Amazon's Kindle e-reader, which sells on the Romanian market for around EUR 300 and EUR 537, depending on model.
