Romanian actor Maia Morgenstern features in viral clip for Save Rosia Montana

19 June 2012

A recent campaign in support of the Save Rosia Montana movement was released, featuring famous Romanian actor Maia Morgenstern in the central role. The black and white one-minute ad, created pro bono by Papaya Advertising, Family Film and Florin Serban places Maia Morgenstern in the middle of a former mine site. She offers to give all her gold to all those interested in Romania's gold and asks them to leave us alone.

“A man is worth more than the gold he wears. So is a country,” is the message sent by the Salvati Rosia Montana (Save Rosia Montana) NGO, which has been opposing the gold mining project at Rosia Montana, initiated by Rosia Montana Gold Corporation and Gabriel Resources.

The clip has been spreading across social media and became a viral, after being launched just a couple of days ago. Watch the English version below.

Romania's Prime Minister recently said 'no' to the Rosia Montana gold mining project starting this year. He is a known ecologist and his wife Daciana Sarbu is also a public opponent of the gold mining project.

Gabriel Resources, the private investor behind the Rosia Montana gold mining project in Romania, wants to reduce costs until the Romanian Government advances with the licensing process for the project, said the Canadian Company. Gabriel Resources posted a loss of USD 2.6 million in the first quarter of 2012, twice as much as in the first quarter of 2011.

Rosia Montana holds Romania’s largest gold reserves, estimated at 300 tonnes of gold and 1,600 tonnes of silver. Gabriel Resources signed a concession agreement for the Rosia Montana project, but the project has not started, as NGOs opposed it and successive Romanian Governments are yet to issue environmental approval.
