Romanian Govt. orders investigation on aircraft sale by state airline

29 January 2019

The Romanian prime minister's control body initiated a control action at state-controlled airline Tarom on Monday, January 28.

The control targets the sale of the two Airbus A310s aircraft in Tarom's fleet in 2018.

"The action focuses on verifying the compliance with the legal provisions in regard to the organization and functioning of Tarom as a company, the corporate management regulations and the circumstances under which two Airbus A310 aircraft were sold in 2018," according to the Government's press release.

Tarom sold the two Airbus A310s aircraft to Armenia Airway for USD 5.4 million in June 2018, Ziarul Financiar reminded. Werner Wolff, Tarom's general manager explained the decision by saying that "it brings significant profit to our company, stemming both from the actual sale of aircraft and the removal of costs for their preservation and maintenance."

The two Airbus A310 aircraft were acquired by Tarom in December 1992 and operated under the commercial regime until the end of 2016.
