Retail trade turnover in Romania goes down 5.2% in September

The retail turnover in Romania, excepting trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles, fell in September by 5.2 percent compared to the same month in 2010, according to the Romanian National Statistics Institute (INS). Fuel retail in specialized stores registered a decrease of 9.5 percent, while food, beverages and tobacco products also dropped in sales by 5.1 percent.

The retail trade turnover went up by 0.7 percent month-on-month in September this year, due to the 3 percent growth recorded in sales of food, beverages and tobacco, according to INS.

In the first nine months of 2011, the turnover in retail dropped by 5.3 percent in Romania, due to the 8.5 percent decrease reported in food, beverages and tobacco products sales, but also because the fuel retail in specialized stores brought a decrease of 4.2 percent. In this period, the non-food products also dropped in retail by 2.5 percent, according to INS.
